In Defense of Monopolies: How Antitrust Criminalizes Business Strategy (MP3 download)

By Ryan Krause

This talk advances the idea that in a free, capitalistic society—as well as in variations thereof—non-coercive, trade-based monopolies can and do exist. The talk argues that such monopolies are a benevolent economic force for all partners in trade (such as customers and suppliers) and that business strategy is, at its root, a plan for achieving a monopoly. The talk also contends that by targeting real and imagined monopolies, antitrust law criminalizes business strategy.

This talk was recorded at the 2015 Objectivist Summer Conference in Charlotte, NC.
