A great mix of the conceptual and the practical
My mistake in listening to this excellent lecture was to put on the headphones in bed, when retiring for the night. I lost a good half-night's sleep as my excited mind refused to let me slumber after the lecture was finished.
Ms. VanDamme clearly explains the faults behind traditional motivational approaches (which I must admit that I've tried and wondered why they failed) and then outlines the reasoning behind the proper approach (which, upon reflection, I had tried by accident, watched it work, but didn't understand why). She gives numerous how-it-was-done examples. Her effective combination of providing the intellectual framework to successful motivation, along with her examples, provide a great help for teachers in developing motivation in the classroom for students at any age.
